"Wildlife?" Lithuania asked, his interest piqued, turning just a moment to stare in the Canadian's direction. "What sorts of animals -MOOSE!!!"
Slamming on the brakes, the small red car screeched to a halt inches before a fully grown male moose, who, if Lithuania didn't know any better, seemed to be staring directly into his soul.
"Oh... oh my goodness!" It took a while for Toris to let out a shaky breath as he spoke, but the rest of him refused to relax, one hand gripping the steering wheel until his knuckles turned white, his other hand outstretched in front of Matthew in an attempt to protect him.
As he continued to stare, the moose's gaze finally left his eyes and turned to Canada, staring at him pointedly before finally continuing on into the woods.

Matthew tensed as Toris hit the brakes, clutching the seat with one hand as a squealing noise sounded from the tires. The adrenaline burst that came from almost colliding with a very large moose had Matthew's heart racing.
The moose stood there for several moments, seeming to stare at Lithuania. Canada heard Toris utter a shakey "Oh my goodness" before the moose turned to look at the Canadian.
Canada had always felt a close connection with his wilderness and the wildlife within it. He had never viewed his connection with his native animals to be anything like as the connection he felt with his native human citizens, but he wondered if he was wrong. Matthew tried his best to give the moose a reassuring look, and also wondered if he was crazy for trying to reassure a moose. Then, looking oddly sated, the animal slowly turned and headed off the road and into the woods surrounding them.
A few moments of incredibly tense silence followed after the moose disappeared. Then Canada started to laugh, and laugh hard, until tears streamed down his cheeks from both the laughter and the incredible pain he felt in his injured ribs when he couldn't stop himself.

Lithuania was near tears, his stomach twisting in worry, feeling as though he had somehow let down his new friend.
Yet the most gentle of laughs slowly filled the interior of the car, breaking the tension immediately and growing in volume, seeming to soothe his tense muscles as Toris finally relaxed and lowered his arms, his shaking nerves quieting.
And he stared at Canada, eyes wide, completely taken by surprise that despite everything, his laugh could be so real.
There was nothing fake, no lie or hidden meanings to the pleasant laugh. It was a sound Lithuania had not heard in so long.
So despite his worries, the smaller Nation could not help but let a tiny smile appear, though laced with apologetic eyes, his hand rubbing the back of his head nervously as he tried to think of an explanation as to why he almost hit a moose.
"Ah... um... I am..." his emerald eyes flashed concern as he saw the other Nation's pain. "Maybe you should n-not... strain your ribs so much, M-Mr. Canada?"
Toris wasn't sure how he could ever tell someone to stop laughing.

"I'm sorry," Canada choked out through his laughter, trying his hardest to quell his amusement and stop laughing. It took a few moments, but he finally managed to stop laughing, though his twitching grin was evidence he still found it hilarious. Matthew groaned and put a hand to his ribcage. Now it hurt from being sat on and from having a laughter attack. He still wasn't entirely sure why he found the idea of he and Lithuania almost colliding with a moose so funny, but regardless of the reason, it was one of the most amusing scenarios Matthew could recall at the moment.
"Mon dieu, I'm sorry for laughing," Canada said again. "Oh holy mother of maple leaves that hurts, but I couldn't help it!"
Matthew wiped the tears from his face with the back of his hand and opened his eyes, looking over at Lithuania. "Now you know what I meant when I said to watch for the wildlife."
With that, Matthew almost burst back into laughter, but the protest from his ribs gave him the strength to resist.
"Are you okay?" He asked instead. "I know it can be a big surprise, especially if you're in the driver's seat."

"Now you know what I meant when I said to watch for the wildlife."
A blush spread across the Lithuanian's face in embarrassment, how could he let something like that happen, after just being warned?
"Y-yes... yes, I'm fine," Toris answered, taking a deep breath, closing his eyes as he attempted to fully calm his body and return his cheeks to their normal color. After a moment Lithuania opened them again, staring directly into Canada's eyes alight with concealed laughter, sucking in a short breath as he felt his cheeks try to heat up again. "But I should be asking you, are you alright, Mr. Canada?" Lithuania's eyes fell. "I'm sorry, I seemed to have caused to unnecessary pain due to my recklessness."

Matthew noticed Toris' face flush, and wished back his 'I-told-you-so' comment of sorts. He hadn't meant it like that. He'd found the whole thing truly comical, and he felt bad that Lithuania seemed to think it was his fault.
Canada sobered slightly and watched his new-found friend. "It's not your fault, Lithuania. Really," he said earnestly. Canada tried for a reassuring smile, but wasn't sure if he got to the desired result or not.
"It happens to everyone around here once in a while. I'm not sure why I found it so funny, because it's actually a really common occurrence here. It's good we didn't hit him. But I'm fine, and you're fine. So it's fine, eh?" Matthew watched Lithuania hopefully.
Good job, Matt, you've gone and offended the first friend you've made in a decade.

Toris nodded once, biting his lip as he took in the other's words. "Y-yes... it's... it's fine." Lithuania finally said, reassured by the hopeful expression of the other. Though still tinged with nervousness, Toris returned the smile.
And he was grateful, so happy his new friend was not angry at him. The situation was a bit amusing, if only for the irony, he had to admit.
"I guess we should... get going then?" Lithuania asked as he returned his hands to the wheel, looking over Canada with concern to make sure he was doing okay.

Canada was no longer sure of what his companion in the car was thinking. Some part of him screamed that he had seriously offended the other man -- somehow -- while the rest of him tried to reason that it wasn't a big deal. It would blow over.
Right?
"Y-yeah," Matthew said when Lithuania suggested continuing on. "Take a-a left u-up ahead, eh? Then it's the... the third house on the right. The white one with the red front door. Just park r-right in the driveway."

Lithuania nodded in confirmation, turning back to gaze out the windshield as he eased off the breaks and continued on, his emerald eyes glued to the road, watching it carefully for any movement. It was only when he pulled into the driveway that Lithuania took a deep breath we made it, and hurriedly unbuckled himself, getting out of the car and walking around to the passenger side to open the door for the Canadian.
Normally, he would have stopped to admire the house (what he caught from the glimpse of his eye was gorgeous), but his mind was more concerned with getting his new friend safe and comfortable, Canada's wavering voice leaving the Lithuanian increasingly concerned.
"I'll, uh... get your buckle again..." Toris stated as he reached around the other, unbuckling his belt and then standing back, holding out his hands just in case Matthew needed them for support. "I'm here to help, just let me know where you want me, okay?"

Matthew grasped one of Lithuania's hands to help pull himself out of the car. Trying his best not to verbally announce his pain, Canada gritted his teeth and made his way out of the car, then straightened, pausing a moment before he attempted moving for the front door.
After a few seconds, Canada led the way up the short walk to the front door and went right in -- he never locked his doors. This was Canada, and his neighborhood was a good one. Also, while he didn't have an alarm system, per se... he had something that would have run off any burglar who tried to come in. It didn't matter that his pet wouldn't hurt a fly -- a polar bear the size of a German Shepard tended to freak most people out a little bit. Especially when it was in Matthew's living room.
"Come on in," Canada said, carefully kicking off his shoes and leaving them in the entryway. Only glancing over his shoulder to see if Lithuania was still following, Matthew headed up the stairs at what felt like an agonizingly slow pace, clutching the banister as if his life depended upon it, toward the kitchen for another ice-pack.
The sound of snuffling reached his ears as he pulled an icepack from the freezer. A cold, wet nose brushed against his elbow. "Hey Kuma," Canada muttered, barely even taking notice of his pet. He brushed past the animal and slowly headed for the couch.
Carefully sitting down, he positioned the ice-pack against his ribcage and leaned back against the sofa. He closed his eyes momentarily, then, remembering his guest, snapped them back open. "S-so... are you just going to head back to the meeting, or... do you want to sit down?" Matthew bit his lip, most of his brain hoping that the Lithuanian man would stay... if just a little bit longer.

In the entranceway the Lithuanian paused, glancing around to quickly take in the new surroundings, deciding promptly that he too should remove his shoes and thus bent down to do so. Not wanting to leave them randomly thrown about, Toris attempted to place them neatly out of the way, but a glance upwards to the slowly ascending Canadian and Toris abandoned the shoes, following into step behind Matthew.
Once reaching the top, Lithuania paused again and looked around almost anxiously, watching Canada as he disappeared behind the wall of the kitchen. His mind was working overtime, worried about possibly doing something he shouldn't, wondering what he might do to help.
Toris was always nervous when in a house he was not familiar with. Everyone was different... some people could not care less what others did in their home. Some did not want anything to be touched.
Some people...Toris inwardly cringed, were unpleasant if he decided wrong.
For a moment Liet thought back to the meeting, his mind flashing to Russia and a nagging feeling that maybe he should have told him where he was going--
"S-so... are you just going to head back to the meeting, or... do you want to sit down?"
Toris visibly relaxed as he was addressed, an invitation, and rejected his previous thoughts, letting go of his cell phone he was unconsciously fingering in his pocket.
If Russia wants me for something, he can just call. Toris wanted to stay... at least, for a little while...
"I... if you d-do not mind that is..." Toris replied, carefully walking over and taking a seat on the couch with Matthew, though at a safe- I'm not sitting too close so it's not awkward, but not too far away distance at which he could be at the other's side in a moments notice. "...Ah... You uh, have a very lovely house, Mr. Canada..." Lithuania complimented with a smile, unsure quite how to say, I want to make sure you are going to be okay.

Canada's smile was genuine, albeit a bit tired. "Thanks. I like it. It's home." Matthew was very glad Lithuania had decided to stay, but noticed the other man seemed a bit unsettled. Matt was a little uncomfortable himself. He felt the need to be playing host; to take care of his guest and offer refreshments and entertainment and such. And he couldn't -- not in this state. Matthew's chest had only just settled to a dull ache as he built up a tolerance to the pain of breathing.
Canada bit his lip and let out a soft chuckle. "I'm sorry I can't be a good host today. All those years of lectures from France and England about being a gentleman and a good host going down the drain. Normally I'd... make pancakes and whatnot. Those are kind of my specialty. But m-make yourself at home. Ma maison est votre maison. Help yourself to anything. The fridge is full, the television remote is... well, it's somewhere, if you want it. Kukumajirou likes to run off with it. I'm sure I could get him to retrieve it."
Canada glanced around, feeling very helpless, a bit rude, and strangely relaxed. He also felt a tremendous relief from just being home where he could relax and recover without being forgotten, invisible, or mistaken for America. And Lithuania was staying. Canada very much liked this notion.

"Kuku... does someone else live...-Oh, no...no!" Shaking his head, Lithuania help up his hands, his eyes wide with concern. "There is no need for you to play host, really! Your kindness is by far enough, Mr. Canada." He thought for a moment, eyes lighting up. "Are you hungry? I could make you pancakes. Or whatever you want... what do you feel like?" Toris gazed at the Canadian with a hopeful smile, eager to make the other Nation happy.

Canada smiled sheepishly. "Pancakes do sound kinda good," he admitted. "Then again, I always want pancakes. Do you know how to make them? Like I said..." Canada let his hands flop helplessly to the couch on either side of him. "The pantry is loaded, but I'm afraid I'll be making you do all the hard work."
Canada paused only a split second before adding - in his opinion - the ultimate swaying argument. "I will, however, try to make it up to you by supplying you with as much maple syrup as you can pour over your plate." Canada gave a lopsided grin, as if hoping to convince Lithuania with that one argument.

Lithuania gave a small chuckle at the convention in the Canadian's words, surprised at how just the mentioning of maple syrup make the other's eyes glow.
"Let's see... I'm best at making blynai... potato pancakes from my country, but..." Toris thought for a moment, "... when I stayed at Mr. America's house for work, he showed me his way of making them." The smaller nation grinned, turning to face the other from his thoughts, his hand gesturing, "and then he would say 'But these are no where near as good as Mattie's!'" Lithuania nodded as though in confirmation. "I didn't think about it much at the time, but it did inspire me to look up lots of recipes and try out different things to make Mr. America happy. ...Though, he tended to be happy with anything I made him...."
Lithuania rubbed the back of his head sheepishly, realizing he was rambling. "So ah, I'm sure they won't compare to yours Mr. Canada... but I will do what I can!" he rose excitedly, eager to head to the kitchen. "Is there a certain recipe you want me to use?"
