[ROLE PLAY RULES, GUIDELINES, AND ETIQUETTE]
With “literate” Role Play comes some consideration and certain expectations. Keep in mind that role play is supposed to be fun, not a chore! These rules and guidelines are being placed here to ensure we all respect each other (be considerate of others!), and maintain the etiquette expected of all role players.
[POST CONTENT]
When people think literate role play, they think quantity and become intimidated. This is not the case! The thing that sets literate role play posts apart is quality. Quality can oftentimes lead to quantity, but it does not necessarily have to. What is a quality? A quality post is a post that has been given thought. What is your character feeling? How are they reacting to a situation? How are they interacting with other characters? Describe the surrounding! It does not have to be a full description of where they are at, but something to give us an idea of what your character is seeing and how they are reacting and interacting with their surroundings. These are the kinds of things we want to see in the literate role play forums! We are creating a story, and each character plays an important part!
[POWERPLAYING]
Powerplaying is essentially controlling other characters, and it is greatly frowned upon when permission to powerplay another’s character has not been granted.
An example of powerplaying:
Spain threw a tomato at Romano and hit him directly between the eyes.
This is a big no-no as it does not give the other character to react in their way of choice (completely taking the hit, attempting to dodge and getting hit elsewhere or even managing to fully dodge the offensive tomato!)
Instead, it should be written something like this:
Spain threw a tomato at Romano, aiming to hit him squarely in the face.
By just ‘aiming’, I have given the other character the opportunity to react as they please. Whether or not the tomato makes contact, or how it makes contact, is completely up to them.
Just remember that powerplaying takes away from the creativity of role playing! It will not be tolerated on these forums. However, if you think powerplaying another character will help move things along or make them more interesting, then ask the person(s) that plays the character(s) you wish to powerplay for permission. It’s as easy as sending a private message! And if you do get permission, please DO add a note at the bottom of your post saying that you were given permission to powerplay.
Something as simple as:
[Permission granted to powerplay (or PP for short)]
[GOD MODDING]
God Modding is basically…having a flawless character with unrealistic abilities. A character that is the best at everything they do. A character that can worm their way out of any situation with little to no effort. A character without weaknesses. God Modding, to me, creates a very static character with no development whatsoever. These kinds of characters usually ruin a role play. God Modding is irritating, and no one likes to role play with a God Modder.
If you have any further questions, or would like an example or two, shoot me a message!
[DOUBLE POSTING]
Don’t do it. It is especially rude in role play. If there is something you are dying to say, or if there is something more you want to add to your post, just edit your post and be patient.
[OOC ONLY POSTS]
For those who might not know, OOC stands for ‘Out Of Character’. OOC only posts will only be acceptable at the beginning of a role play when roles are being filled. The only way they are acceptable throughout a role play is if, again, roles are being filled. Anyone is welcome to join a role play at any time as long as there are roles to fill. Anyways, if there is something you need to say OOC, send a message! Don’t clutter the role play with OOC only posts!
[SEX]
Sorry to ruin your fun, but explicit sexual content is not allowed on these forums. Kissing? Have at it! Groping? Sure, as long as you are not too specific about it. The act itself? Allude to it. Describe what your character is feeling. Or you can simply write the lead up, skip over the act itself, and then write how your character feels afterwards or what your character is doing afterwards. A good example of this is in the Pirate role play that is currently going on, but if you are unsure whether or not you’re crossing the line, send me a message!
This is all I have for now, but I am open to suggestions and things I might have overlooked!
Again, if you have questions about anything, just shoot me or Hipster France a message!
