Pleased that maybe, just maybe, they could undo the binds their fathers had forcibly bonded between them, their return to the banquet hall saw more vigor in his step, more genuine charm in his smile, and a joyous spark in his eyes. It was such a strange occurrence, unnatural for him to act when he never before had cause to wear a mask, but some part of him reveled in the performance. Loki, however, was far more impressive. The sudden shift in his demeanor left Thor wondering if putting on a charade was something the Jotun prince practiced often.
He followed Loki's lead, his gaze shifting to Balder and the Warrior's Three as they set foot inside the hall. As they laid eyes upon Thor and Loki, their expressions filled with stunned astonishment-- the unfortunate, half-eaten leg of a large bird fell from Volstagg's hand and crashed loudly onto table before him. Thor smiled at his brother and friends, waving cheerily at them as he graciously accepted the food and wine Loki offered to him.
From then on he only had eyes for his betrothed, engaging easily in the idle conversation initiated by Loki, smiling upon him, his laugh loud and ringing in the hall. He was aware their entrance had commanded the attention of every royal within the hall, their eyes lingering as they whispered behind their hands, but was hardly bothered by their scouring eyes. Thus, he ignored them, pretending to be completely enthralled with Loki.
He took a bite of meat, immediately following it with a sip of wine, his lips settling back into what appeared to be a irrepressible smile. I would like nothing better than to see all that Jotunheim has to offer, and it would please me to do so in your company. His words were followed with a chuckle. The last thing I want is to anger your father.
His eyes shifted to where his father stood near the throne, and he felt a smug sense of accomplishment upon seeing the approval that radiated like a beacon of pride from the All-Father's face. How easy this pretense was! Even his own father had been fooled by his facade!
Thor straightened as Odin began to approach them, his arm tightening around Loki's. I have gotten this far already. Father trusts me-- if I say I am happy, he will find no reason to doubt me. Confident of this, he smiled widely as his father stopped before them.
The king of Asgard smiled upon receiving Loki's words. Think nothing of it, Loki Laufeyson. I am glad to see you two here now, together and happy.
Thor threaded his fingers with Loki's as they slid between his, glancing quickly at him as he squeezed his hand and beaming at his father. 'Tis true, father. I could not be happier. Forgive me for disgracing you with my behavior. I am wrong for having judged Loki before giving him the chance he deserves, but now I have seen the error of my ways.
The All-Father scrutinized Thor for a brief moment, searching him for any hint of falsehood. Seeming to find none, he smiled again. No, my son, you have done well to accept this arrangement, and it brings me great joy to see you so pleased. I knew it was not something you would accept immediately, but I am curious-- what is it that changed your mind?
More confident now than before, he turned his gaze upon Loki, turning towards him and taking his other hand. He is beautiful and enchanting, and I was persuaded by his talented tongue. The words fell easily from his lips, so well he had rehearsed them in his head, but he was confused to see the shocked expression on Odin's face.
Father? Are you alright?
